Whiplash Treatment in Pittsburgh

What is Whiplash?

The term “whiplash” describes any injury caused by the sudden and violent forward and backward movement of the head, causing damage to the ligaments, tendons, and muscles within the neck. Typically, whiplash injuries are caused by rear-end automobile collisions, but they can also be caused by sports accidents and other physical traumas. This type of injury is called a neck strain, differentiated from a neck sprain by a lack of tearing in the neck tissue.

Common Symptoms of Whiplash

  • Soreness or tenderness in the neck and/or shoulders
  • Swelling and/or stiffness in the neck and/or shoulders
  • Pain in the neck, shoulders, jaw, back, and/or upper arms
  • Limited range of motion in the neck
  • Dizziness and/or fatigue
  • Headache

Some Sufferers Also Experience

  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Problems with concentration and/or memory
  • Anger, frustration, and/or irritability
  • Anxiety and/or depression
  • Blurred vision

Don’t Believe This Common Misconception

Many people in slow speed, low impact automobile collisions assume that no damage to the vehicle also means there’s no chance of a whiplash injury. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and low impact accidents can actually cause more damage than accidents occurring at higher speeds. If you’re not sure whether or not you’ve sustained a whiplash injury, consult a professional.

Chiropractic Care for Whiplash

neck pain 2While it’s important to remember that low speed crashes can also cause this injury, It’s also important to remember that your whiplash symptoms may or may not appear immediately after the accident. Either way, you should seek treatment as soon as you notice these symptoms. Chiropractic adjustments following whiplash injuries can correct misalignments within your spine, increase your range of motion, relieve your pain, and promote the overall healing of the affected area.
